Why We Are Requiring Age Verification - And Why We Believe It Puts Privacy At Risk

Over the past few years, governments in places like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and more than 20 U.S. states have passed laws that require adult websites like ours to verify that visitors are over 18 before viewing adult content.

In many regions, if we do not verify age, we can face fines, lawsuits, or get blocked entirely. That means that in order to continue operating legally and remain available to you, we must verify your age before giving access to adult material.

We want to be very open and honest about this.

We are complying because the law requires it.

But we also believe that these laws raise real privacy concerns for adults, and many respected privacy organizations agree.

We strongly believe that adults should be able to view legal adult content privately and without being tracked or profiled. Unfortunately, the current legal environment makes that increasingly difficult.

Our privacy commitment to you

This is important:

We do NOT collect or store personal information about you

Here is exactly what happens during verification:

  1. Your verification is processed by a third party
  2. They confirm whether you are an adult
  3. They return one single response to us: Verified or Not Verified

That is all.

We do NOT receive any of the following:

  • your name
  • your address
  • your birthday
  • your ID number
  • your age
  • your photo or biometric data
  • your device information

We specifically chose a privacy-focused verification provider to ensure that we do not receive or hold any identifying information about you.

We cannot identify you from the verification result.

We do not want that data, and we will not store it.

Why Age Verification Laws Are Controversial

Even with systems like ours that minimize data, privacy and civil liberties groups warn that mandatory age verification creates very real risks.

These concerns are widely documented.

1. Age verification can link identity to highly sensitive browsing

Many systems require scanning government ID, using a digital identity wallet, facial recognition, or other forms of verification. Even when companies promise not to store this data permanently, the information still exists during processing.

If such systems are hacked, misused, or accessed through legal orders, individuals could be exposed as adult content viewers.

That is extremely sensitive information.

2. These systems can create massive data honeypots

When millions of people must prove their age, huge collections of identity records are generated.

Hackers target high value data. There is no such thing as a perfectly secure system.

If such data is ever leaked, the consequences are permanent.

3. Anonymous lawful browsing is being eroded

For decades, adults could legally view adult content without showing identification.

Mandatory identity checks move the internet toward identity-first access.

Privacy groups warn that once this infrastructure exists, it can expand to cover more categories of content.

4. These laws do not reliably stop minors, but they do burden adults

Minors can bypass these restrictions using VPNs or offshore platforms.

So in practice:

  • minors often still reach content
  • adults lose privacy
  • legitimate websites carry the legal and financial burden
